Director, Amanda Johnson

amanda 0215 200x280px webAmanda Johnson is certified in early childhood through grade four. She also holds certifications in English as a Second Language (ESL) and in Special Education (all level) with a specialization in Autism and Severe Emotional Disorders. She holds a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Master's degree in Special Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. Mrs. Johnson taught in public school for five years prior to opening The Helping House. For two years, she was a teacher in a self-contained special education class. Amanda is a behavior therapist, fully trained in method of Applied Behavior Analysis. She regularly presents at area support groups and workshops.

Behavior Therapy Assistant Supervisor, Maria Tostado

maria 0206 200x280px webMrs. Maria Tostado has worked at The Helping House since it opened. She was an integral part of its beginning. She has participated in regional and state trainings for teachers of children with ASD. Maria has a particular passion for the Spanish-speaking community and makes an effort to educate this community about autism and related disorders.

Other Staff

A licensed speech language pathologist, educational diagnostician, and an occupational therapist are also utilized on a consult basis.

Several Behavior Therapy Assistants work one-on-one with the students or with small groups.

The Helping House regularly accepts volunteers and interns from many different educational backgrounds. We are proud to partner with SFASU as well as Angelina College School of Nursing.
