Autism

Autism is a developmental disability that usually appears in the first three years of life. Symptoms of autism include:

  • Impairment in communication skills

  • Impairment in social skills

  • Repetitive or ritualistic behaviors

Prevalence of autism is currently estimated at one child in every 150, which makes it the third most common developmental disability in the United States. There are five types of autism spectrum disorders, which vary in degree, age of onset, and primary symptoms.
